Modest budget refurbishments can have a big impact
Refurbishing a pub or bar needn’t cost the earth – but it can have an exponential effect on turnover.
Pub companies with multiple properties may see a refurbishment roll out as a project with multiple £££ signs attached. However, this doesn’t need to be the case and companies who continually invest, albeit carefully, will reap the rewards and see profit margins from individual sites increase.
The British pub scene has changed over the years, and many companies have found innovative ways to ensure their chain of establishments remain current and attractive to consumers with the introduction of gastro dishes and craft beers and maximising the use of any outdoor spaces. However, having uncomfortable surroundings or a dilapidated façade can be a real deal-breaker for customers. From ensuring the street aspect is enticing, including painted doors and window ledges, bright signage and flower pots to inviting furnishings which evoke comfort and relaxation. Unglamorous as they maybe toilets should also be a focus and they have to be bright, clean and fresh. We recently completed a refurbishment of The Bricklayers, Hitchin for Wells & Co. The budget was tight, but the finished result belied the small budget and the site has seen a great return, a testament to the fact that a refurbishment doesn’t need to cost a fortune.
