Set within a Tudor-style house, in the stunning 22 acre deer park on Bedfordshire’s Woburn estate, Paris House offers high-end, classic British cuisine. With an eclectic history, from tonsil hospital to the bolt hole for Sir Winston Churchill, Paris House eventually become a restaurant in 1983. While set in elegant surrounding, with a discerning reputation, but the owners realised that they needed to update the ‘tired and dated’ décor to reflect the fine-dining experience and appeal to both new, and repeat, customers.

THE REFURBISHMENT.

CIC worked with independent design company, ‘Keen as Mustard’ to tender for the Paris House project. Collaboratively working together on the design and build tender, they won the project by hitting the price point, and re-creating the design feel that Paris House was seeking. One of the key objectives to the refurbishment was to create a dedicated bar and counter display as the owners had previously utilised a mobile drinks trolley. Due to the fact that the property is a listed building, very little could be done to alter the structure of the restaurant. As a result, CIC carefully planned the existing space, allowing for the installation of a bar and display counter for the first time, while creating a modern, bright, dining environment.

Additional improvements included laying new flooring and installing pocket oak doors and fret screens to create a flexible private dining space on the ground floor. Teal and grey colours were incorporated into the décor and furnishings for a vibrant and contemporary feel, which would also compliment the traditional surroundings, and hand crafted furniture, of Paris House.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL.

CIC delivered a thoughtful and relevant design that works brilliantly to bring life and modernity to an old period building. 2 years on and the build quality is holding up extremely well with minimal requirement for R&R. Guests love the colours and textures and we are frequently asked for information of sources. With this design, we have made Paris House the warm, friendly and special environment that we wanted it to be.
