It doesn't take a lot to enhance students space

CIC do a lot of work for universities, helping them to maximise space. Universities across the country are back in full swing and the first action-packed freshers’ weeks since 2019 are a distant memory. Without the constraints of COIVD restrictions impeding the traditional rite of passage for new students, universities will have been making the most of their student union bars since term began.

While the calibre of lecturers and course offerings is of course vitally important to a university, ensuring that the space they provide their students is just as significant.

There is little doubt that the pandemic brought financial challenges to many institutions, but small incremental changes could make all the difference to students as they stay away from home for the first time. From touching up the paintwork to transforming disused areas into social spaces by incorporating tables, sofas and comfy chairs, or even just hanging pictures on a wall or adding a flat-screen TV and dim lighting could carve out a space for students, creating a relaxing sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of university life.

While ensuring spaces are appealing, having a versatile layout and design could open up a new revenue stream too, from hosting external conferences in lecture halls to opening up sports facilities for local teams and yoga groups. Over the years, CIC has worked with several universities to renovate their spaces as a means of attracting a wider customer base.

Working in partnership with Lincoln University CIC turned a disused restaurant into an opulent cocktail bar, suitable for both students and the wider community. While working with Royal Holloway University, CIC turned a local pub into ‘The Packhorse’ to appeal to both students and local residents alike.
