Don’t forget the toilets….
According to Mintel, 93% of pub-goers cite toilet cleanliness as an important factor when visiting a pub. While good sanitation is a necessity, a bathroom which isn’t in keeping with the rest of the pub redesign could deter customers as it is quite often the first or last thing they see!
Bathroom design should feature highly during a pub refurbishment project, and not become an after thought during the process. Hygiene and upkeep is essential but so to is creating the right atmosphere which is in keeping with the rest of the pub’s – toilet décor is just as important in the redesign narrative as the bar and front of house! In fact, more people today take the obligatory #bathroom selfie and nobody wants to see chipped paint or harsh strip lighting in the background!
Lighting is an important aspect of the pub toilet. If the rest of the establishment’s lighting is warm and atmospheric, ensure that this is continued throughout the toilets and add mirrors. Marble worktops for the bar and brass fittings? Recreate these with the sinks and taps. And, don’t forget, the devil is in the detail, so incorporate quality soaps and towels to make customers feel even more valued.
