Could outdoor dining be the way forward?
As lockdown rules are eased, and the possibility that the hospitality industry could begin to tentatively open their doors to the public in July, could outdoor dining provide a lifeline to restaurants and pubs? The Health Secretary has already alluded to the possibility that establishments with outside spaces could open, and the summer months may provide the ideal time for this. Pub chains are also looking at implementing innovative measures to help customers socially distance when they reopen their doors, including Greene King’s CEO, Nick Mackenzie, who has already stated that the gardens of its 2,700 UK pubs will be opened first, and announced that customers should be able to order their pint via their phone.
