An optimistic end to 2022?

A bit of positivity for the beleaguered hospitality industry. While the sector is certainly not at the end of this difficult run, from the pandemic hangover to the current impact of soaring energy rates, the cost of living crisis, and strikes,  hospitality investor, Luke Johnson has pointed out that: “people might cut back on a skiing holiday or a new kitchen, but I don’t think they will cut back on a nice coffee or cocktail or meal out in their favourite place.” Couple this with the fact that beer sales on Monday, as the home nations kicked off their World Cup campaigns, surpassed the previous four Mondays by more than 50% with more than 6.9 million pints sold across the UK, the industry might be entering a prosperous end to the year. In fact, even the King is urging people to support their local pub. Writing the foreword within the 50th edition of the Good Beer Guide, King Charles III highlighted how pubs are a part of the fabric of the nation and played a crucial role within communities. So, the timing of the World Cup leading into the festive season will hopefully give hospitality businesses a significant boost and encourage people to visit their local to enjoy the festivities – it certainly has the Royal seal of approval after all!
