Let's celebrate the pub!

At CIC, we’ve spent over 25 years immersed in the hospitality sector, breathing new life into spaces that serve as the heartbeats of their communities. As English Tourism Week highlights the theme of “Supporting People and Places to Drive Growth,” there’s no better time to celebrate one of the most enduring pillars of British culture: the local pub.

Pubs have long been more than just places to grab a drink. They are vibrant social hubs, economic drivers, and vital cornerstones of community life. According to a YouGov poll, 72% of people feel pubs have a positive impact on their community, and a resounding 81% believe they play an essential role in bringing people together. These statistics only affirm what we have witnessed firsthand – that a thriving local pub enriches not just the lives of its patrons but the entire surrounding area.

Over the years, many pubs have faced the challenges of economic pressures and changing social habits, leading to widespread closures. Yet, their importance has not diminished. More than just a spot to enjoy a pint, pubs foster real connections. They host quiz nights that ignite friendly rivalries, live music, and charity events that unite locals for a good cause. In rural areas, where communal spaces are dwindling, pubs remain one of the last bastions of informal gatherings, making them indispensable for social cohesion.

English pub culture is steeped in tradition, spanning centuries and offering an unmistakable sense of belonging. Within these walls, friendships are forged, local news is shared, and a shared history is kept alive. A good pub exudes warmth, a place where the welcome is as hearty as the ale, and the conversation flows as easily as the drinks. These establishments don’t just serve beverages; they serve their communities in ways that extend far beyond their physical walls.

At CIC, we understand the significance of pubs, not just as businesses but as cultural institutions. Our commitment to refurbishing these spaces is about more than just renovation; it’s about preserving heritage, enhancing ambiance, and ensuring they continue to thrive for generations to come. We take great pride in revitalising these spaces, making sure they reflect both their historical charm and the modern needs of their patrons.

We’ve had the privilege of working on an array of incredible projects, including transforming an 18th-century property that once housed a residential care home into The Cherry Tree in Olney, bringing a fresh yet traditional feel to a cherished local establishment. Our extensive work with pub companies such as Admiral Taverns and McMullens has allowed us to breathe new life into numerous venues.

At The Dragoon Pub in Cambridgeshire, our transformation of a former sports bar into a traditional pub almost doubled its capacity, proving that thoughtful renovation can significantly impact not just a business but an entire community.

As we celebrate English Tourism Week, we reaffirm our belief in the power of pubs. They are not just places of leisure but key players in driving local growth and fostering connections that support people. At CIC, we are proud to play a role in ensuring these community gems continue to thrive, providing spaces where history, camaraderie, and good company will always be on tap
