Hotel Room of the future – are hoteliers prepared?

The 2018 Independent Hotel Show featured a live installation of ‘The Hotel Room of the Future,’ which, according to all the reports, is set to become a reality within the next decade. Customer tastes have dramatically evolved over the years, from the floral bed linen and dark wood furniture of the 1980’s to minimalist décor and the light colours of the millennium. However, what will creep further into hotel rooms is technology. Customers are used to having high-tech not just at their fingertips but on the tip of their tongues today; “Light’s on!” “Heating on!” As they become increasingly tech-savvy at home they are going to expect the same of their hotel room.
Since flat-screens and Wi-Fi are now standard in most guest bedrooms, hoteliers need to think how they can differentiate themselves through service and unique amenities, incorporating the internet of things in the process.
