Keeping it local!
The theme of this year’s English Tourism Week is ‘Supporting tourism, the heart of our communities.’ As a company that has, for many decades, been intertwined with the iconic English hospitality scene, we need no excuse to celebrate the beating heart of many communities across the country – the local pub!
Local pubs are not merely spaces to grab a pint or share a meal; they are integral to local communities, providing invaluable social spaces that foster connection, happiness, and a unique sense of belonging. English pub culture is a time-honoured tradition that spans the centuries, offering solace, camaraderie, and a good pint. Pubs are where friendships are forged, news is exchanged, and the community bond is reaffirmed daily.
Our long-standing commitment to refurbishing these community jewels extends beyond mere restoration; it’s about upholding a tradition, reviving an ambiance, and ensuring their physical spaces reflect the warmth and history they hold within.
Through careful restoration and modern infusion, we have helped many of these community gems stand out, creating spaces that move with the times while attracting both the young and the old – striking the balance between history and modernity. An example of this is our renovation of The Cherry Tree, Olney a 14th Century, Grade II Listed building and former residential care home which has been given a new lease of life as a local pub and restaurant under Oakman Inns.
As the buzz of English Tourism Week continues throughout the week, the economic impact of a thriving local hospitality industry cannot be underestimated. From the classic local pub to the gastro pub, these locales not only attract tourists but also keep locals employed, the economy ticking, and the heart of England alive with activity.
